ENGLISH TEACHER WANTED FOR TIBETAN REFUGEE SETTLEMENT

Would you like to live and work in a south Indian Tibetan refugee settlement for 6 months or more?

The job is based at Dzogchen Monastery near the town of Kollegal in Karnataka, between Bangalore and Mysore. (Full contact details below.)

You will work alongside teachers to support written and conversational English for Tibetan children in classes 5 (aged10+) and 6 (aged 11+) at the local school. At this point they are making the transition from Tibetan medium to having all their lessons in English and desperately need the extra help. Teaching materials are limited, so you would need to be creative and resourceful. You do not need to be a trained teacher but a TESL qualification would be useful.

This is a voluntary post and would suit someone who is interested in making a difference to the future of young Tibetans and would like to live a simple, spiritual life. There is a minimal charge of Rs50 (about 60p) per day to cover food and accommodation. As well as living in the monastery guesthouse with Tibetans and Westerners, you will have the opportunity, if you wish, to learn Tibetan and study Tibetan Buddhism. The monastery is very poor so the airfare cannot be paid.

The holder of the Dzogchen lineage, His Eminence Dzogchen Rinpoche, is the Abbott of the monastery and gives Dharma teachings regularly when he is in residence. You will also be able to join in the ritual and practice life of the monastery.

Message from the Tibetan Rights Action Coalition

China will free Tibet when it becomes too expensive to keep, not before, and we are dedicated to making that happen! Our web page, even though it is aimed at Americans, who are buying 40% of China's exports and supporting the occupation of Tibet.
The first link on our "links" page has a place to record purchases not made, and a tally is being kept which will be sent, along with many personal messages, to Jiang Ziamen. We also have a system for consumers to let stores know when they boycott Chinese goods, and why.
